GLMX #36: Why Our Families Need Christ and Courageous Fathers

According to statistics, one-third of children in America (24 million) live without their biological father. Children without fathers are, on average, two to three times more likely to have educational and health problems, abuse drugs and alcohol, engage in criminal behavior, or commit suicide. USA Today reports that over the past 30 years, fathers have been disappearing from American families. Divorce is one of the main reasons fathers are absent from the home. Many of today’s fathers have two or even three jobs. Others travel weekly, taking them away from their families. Children whose fathers are involved in their lives are more confident, better able to deal with frustration, more likely to have high self-esteem, and more capable of gaining independence and their own identity according to Dadsworld.com.

There are certain factors that characterize a courageous father. In this Gospel Light Minute X edition, Daniel Whyte III shares reasons why families today need courageous fathers and introduces the audience to the most courageous Father of all.

The Power of Prayer Can Deliver You from the “Hell You Are Going Through” in this Life and from the “Real Hell” in the Life to Come” (Gospel Light Minute X)

Perhaps, you have heard some people make these statements: “Because of the economic downturn I lost my job. I don’t know what I’ll do for income.” “I’ve lost my investments in the stock market, so now I don’t have any savings for the future.” “We don’t have money to continue our mortgage payments, so we had to foreclose on our house.” “Our hearts are grieving because of the loss of a loved one.” “I had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. Now the cancer has returned.”

We live in difficult days. These and other problems abound, hitting us on all sides. Perhaps you can identify with one or more of the problems mentioned above. You may be facing the most devastating time of your life and you don’t know what to do. But there is something you can do. You can take your problem to God through prayer. God always hears our prayers and answers according to His will—even though they may not be answered the way we anticipated.

Many people in the Bible faced terrible problems, too. When they prayed, God answered and resolved their dilemmas. For example Hezekiah, king of Judah, was deathly ill, and when he prayed God healed him and extended his life. Others in dire circumstances—Peter in prison, David being pursued by enemies, Paul being persecuted—prayed and God answered.

GLMX #34: Are We Really Living In the Last Days?

It is estimated that more than 20,000 people were killed in the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Damage to nuclear reactors may have disastrous long term effects. Japan’s prime minister has called the earthquake his country’s worst crisis since World War II.

Meanwhile the worldwide recession and the unrest in countries across the Middle East have caused great concern among many people. Tornadoes, floods, volcanic eruptions, and other natural disasters have killed thousands more and left many homeless and hopeless.

These are indeed historic days in which we live. When disasters and wars erupt, people often ask about their relation to the end of history. After Jesus prophesied the destruction of the Holy City, His disciples asked Him in Matthew 24:3, “what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

Jesus responded with six different signs that would precede His Second Coming, and the end of the world. To what degree are they being fulfilled in our day?

GLMX #33: Finding God in the Midst of Calamity and Disaster

Over the past couple of months, the world has been hit by disasters like never before. Just think back, and you will remember the devastating earthquake in New Zealand, and then the horrible earthquake which was followed by a crushing tsunami that hit Japan. From the disaster in Japan alone, over 12,000 lives were lost and countless thousands were displaced and left without homes and other necessities. In the United States, massive flooding along the Mississippi River has cost many people their lives and their homes. And just this past week, a deadly outbreak of tornadoes swept across the midwest region of our country causing catastrophic damage in places like Joplin, Missouri. Already, over 500 people have been killed by tornadoes this year.

And we’ve heard of other disasters as well — killer tsunamis, devastating earthquakes, massive hurricanes, raging floods, and out of control fires. Nature has dealt staggering blows to the earth and its people over the years. Many of these events happen without warning.

Each year millions of people are faced with the daunting destruction caused by the forces of nature as they storm into their lives. The impact on our families, our cities, and our country may occur in just a few minutes, but dealing with these overwhelming disasters continues long after the initial catastrophe.

Natural disasters are beyond our control. We cannot prevent them and run away from them, but we can turn to God for help in times of trouble. Although we can’t prevent disasters from happening (many times we can’t even issue warnings in time) there are some things coming that we can prepare for now.

GLMX #32: The World Did Not End as Predicted, but It Will One Day — Here is What You Must Do to Be Saved

The false prophet, Harold Camping’s prediction about the second coming of Christ and the rapture of the church did not happen, as many true Christian leaders said it would not happen. The Bible says in Matthew 24:36, “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” Just because this false prophet was wrong, do not get a false sense of security because the world will end one day, and you need to be ready. Here is how you can be ready for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
